DESIGNPhilippines builds on PH’s growing profile in the EU at Ambiente 2026

By September Grace Mahino

Following a successful showing last year, which demonstrated the country’s appeal in the sustainable-luxury market, the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions’ (CITEM) banner program DESIGNPhilippines looks to further strengthen the country’s presence in Europe’s consumer goods scene by rejoining Ambiente, one of the continent’s leading trade fairs for the sector.

Happening from February 6 to 10, 2026, in Frankfurt, Germany, Ambiente 2026 is set to present a “Dreams, Facts, Stories” theme, which celebrates joyous experimentation, dynamism, and bold palettes. With its focus on how color and material trends elevate and refine consumer goods, the international trade show’s upcoming edition is the perfect platform for presenting the level of design and craftsmanship that Filipino manufacturers are capable of.

The Filipino exporters that DESIGNPhilippines will bring to Frankfurt are: 33 Point 3 Exports, Inc., Aerostone, Albertina, Arte Cebuana, Calfurn, Coast Pacific, Conway Designs Inc., CSM Philippines, Dela Cruz House of Piña, Freden, Green Inc., Jireh Forge, Klassy Collections, L as Auras, Nature’s Legacy, Orient Meadow, Robles Heritage, Moodism, TADECO Home, Lija by That One Piece Enterprise, Weavemanila Inc., and Zarate Manila. Several of these companies were part of last year’s contingent at Ambiente and were well received by international buyers. In addition, the trade fair awarded Nature’s Legacy, That One Piece, and TADECO Home with the Ethical Style label in recognition of the companies’ respective efforts to offer consumers eco-friendlier product solutions.

With Bicol as the Philippine delegation’s partner region, there will also be enterprises from the province, facilitated through the assistance of DTI Region 5, the Provincial Government of Albay, and PHILEXPORT Bicol. These are FGM Merchandising, Fulgosino Enterprise, Natural Carpet Industries, RCB Crafts and Designs, and Shelmed Cottage Treasure. With the support of DTI Region 11 and Malikhaing Pinoy, the Mindanao Trade Expo Foundation, Inc. (MTEFI) will be joining as well, represented by T’nalak Home, Kathryn Fanlo, Yvettes Bags and Beads Collection, EJTP Modern Space Interiors Supply, and Bellissimi Furniture Shop/Maria Vinecraft.

Overseeing the design and display of the Philippine pavilion at Ambiente 2026 is creative director Tony Gonzales. A frequent collaborator of CITEM, his expansive design experience lends him incisive knowledge into the local manufacturing industry as well as the international market. “Fifty percent of this year’s participating companies have been joining the last four [Ambiente] editions,” he shares. These companies are manufacturers that have successfully sold their products and developed their niche market, and they’re now looking for new buyers. Participating in this trade fair at Frankfurt, Germany, is a must for them to continue getting the demand volume for their manufacturing and increasing export sales.”

Given that Filipino artisans are highly adept at working with natural materials, international buyers on the lookout for innovative and eco-friendly material use will have plenty to discover from the curated selection of goods the Philippine contingent will bring. The representation of regional industries and crafts will also bring an array of hues, textures, and patterns that fit right in with the “brave, light, and solid” design styles that Ambiente 2026 aims to bring to life.

Gonzales also notes a product category featured in the trade fair that holds plenty of promise for local exporters. “We are continuing to monitor the sales of our Christmas decor companies, a sector that has shown steady, year-on-year growth in export sales,” he says. Indeed, the delegations organized by DESIGNPhilippines for Ambiente’s recent editions featured more holiday decor manufacturers. “We are also encouraging more companies to join this market sector, because I remain confident in its competitiveness, especially with China’s rising labor costs and increasing tariffs,” Gonzales adds. “Our goal is to [revitalize our] Christmas decor manufacturers and help them market their products, which are in high demand.”

As the leading international point of contact for top retail and commercial buyers for consumer goods, Ambiente welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. Its general product categories are Dining (tablescapes, kitchenware, and household items), Living (furniture and décor), and Giving (gifts, stationery, and souvenirs). Although it has traditionally been a hub for buyers seeking high-volume, low-priced products, Ambiente sales in 2025 saw a growing interest in items in the luxury range.

This signals an opportunity for the Philippines to stand out in the European market against its competitors from the East and Southeast Asian regions. In terms of attracting buyers through affordable pricing and high-volume production, competition remains steep. However, local manufacturers can undoubtedly meet the international demand for high-end, innovative, and meticulously handcrafted items.

The European HoReCa (hotels, restaurants, and cafés) sector also remains a receptive market to the strengths of Filipino exporters. Trend reports indicate that for 2026, businesses and stakeholders on the continent will be seeking fresh design ideas that fit in with the immersive experience economy. This means pieces that incorporate cultural aesthetic, storytelling, and sensory design to facilitate the co-creation of hospitality experiences rather than letting guests remain as passive consumers. As proven by the 73rd edition of Manila FAME, CITEM’s premier trade show for all things home, fashion, and lifestyle, Filipino designers, artisans, and manufacturers are more than capable of producing exquisite items that can satisfy the growing consumer preference for artisanal and less industrial-looking products.

“The Philippines’ continuing participation in such a significant and prominent trade fair like Ambiente is an incredible opportunity for our export industry to showcase the strengths and the potential of Filipino enterprises,” CITEM Executive Director Leah Pulido Ocampo remarks. “It also gives our exporters front-row seats to the best branding and marketing practices they can apply to their businesses so they continue to grow their audience internationally. With Ambiente already beginning to recognize the quality of consumer goods that the country produces, we’re optimistic about the Philippines’ chances of becoming a major player in the European market.”
