Creative Woodwork

By Rufa Claire Desor

RN Arts & Crafts showcases the robust nature of locally sourced wood through their handcrafted home decor and furniture pieces. Their signature designs, characterized by the fusion of dark wood and caramel tones, imbue each piece with a harmonious balance and depth. Beyond aesthetics, their creations embody a narrative deeply rooted in Filipino culture, offering distinctive and timeless designs. The brand not only adds decorative flair to homes but also serves as an expression of cultural Filipino identity.

Drawing from the country's rich cultural background, it is evident how their designs incorporate colonial influences. From the inclusion of biblical motifs such as the Nativity Set and depictions of Jesus Christ, and nods to traditional Filipino games like luksong baka and palosebo, are chiseled into their wooden handicrafts. Each meticulously crafted piece not only embodies exquisite artistry but also tells a compelling story inspired by the vibrant cultural heritage of the Philippines.

At Manila FAME 2023, RN Arts and Craft showcased a captivating array of handcrafted treasures sourced from the Philippine provinces of Palawan, Benguet, and Mindanao.

Among its standout pieces is the Sarimanok Sungka Board, inspired by the mystical creature of Maranao folklore. Adorned with resplendent, colorful feathers, RN Arts & Crafts skillfully incorporates the vibrant allure of the sarimanok with multicolored swirls along its dark brown body. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the sarimanok embodies values of honor, good fortune, and prosperity—a fitting emblem for the competitive game of sungka. Choosing a motif rooted in the ancestral beliefs of indigenous Filipinos from Mindanao captures the full cultural experience in a single wooden masterpiece.

Beyond mere functionality, RN Arts & Crafts crafts impeccable pieces designed to elevate any space and delight the senses with their aesthetic appeal. Treating these creations as treasures enriches the living experience by using traditional inspirations and materials, enabling buyers to rediscover the rich narrative of Filipino culture in each piece.

“We help sustain and promote Filipino culture through the art of wood in the country,” shared Roselle Marie Buloron, Owner of RN Arts and Crafts.

The Appeal of Inlaid Products

Inlaid Products by RN Arts and Crafts

RN Arts and Crafts take pride in their wooden inlaid products that feature intricate designs made specifically for a certain item. The brand ensures that each pattern is uniquely tailored and never replicated, making sure that every piece has depth and significance.

The incorporation of various geometric patterns such as diamonds, circles, or simple yet delicate vines gives a dramatic feel to the vintage-inspired pieces. Intricate inlays are also added to household items including tables, cabinets, vases, and storage organizers, among a plethora of other decor.

Buloron's mastery of the craft of using inlays stems from her collaboration with indigenous artisans and her own familial traditions. This is evident in the skillful transformation of raw wood into stunning furniture and home décor.

“These products are actually one of its kind. Most of them are built for months and our close attention to detail underscores the allure that these delicate yet impactful patterns bring to the products' overall aesthetic,” Buloron added.

Return to Exporting

RN Arts & Crafts' steadfast presence at various trade fairs like Manila FAME enables them to build rapport with new clients and facilitates their continuous expansion into the global market.

“The pandemic halted our export operations, fortunately, through Manila FAME we received several inquiries regarding our export items and we are eager to expand our reach to various countries. We are particularly interested in exporting to European countries, as there is a strong interest in these products there,” Buloron ended.
