Leather has a certain sense of ownership and individuality. No two leather hides are the same and each has its own subtlety and story. These are what brought the designer and craftsman, Chrisxavior Bautista Aguila to fall in love with the craft. From everyday carry to handbags, every single creation is made diligently with great attention to detail. Vegetable Tanned Leather is arguably one of the best when it comes to quality. It can be tooled and is sturdy enough to last a lifetime. It offers a gorgeous patina as it ages and definitely gives each piece more character than it already has.

Since its inception, S A T O is slowly growing from its small beginnings as a micro business to become a torch-bearer in promoting local artisanship and embracing a collective memory of our rich cultural roots. Each series pulls you in with its robust Filipino flare from items such as The Datu (a pre-colonial ruler of indigenous people in the Philippines) to The Kilig (an untranslatable Filipino word meaning a feeling of elation).

Most of our identity have been deliberately written over during the colonial period. Through each piece, S A T O urges everyone to have a deeper conversation, get to know more of where we come from and keep the fire of our colourful history burning for generations to come.
