This design was our first foray into Filipino culture and tradition. Its main subject is a "diwata," known in Philippine mythology as a goddess or spirit guardian of a region. She is inspired by Maria Makiling, one of the most popular Filipino diwatas and the protector of Mount Makiling in the Laguna province. Surrounded by Philippine botanicals, she is believed to protect the bounty of the land. The soft peaks and valleys of the mountain is said to be seen in the gentle slope of her sleeping form.
