Klaypel began with a simple belief: that art has the power to bring people together.
In 2005, Filipino entrepreneur and artist Sue Morales opened an art café with a vision of creating a space where families could slow down, connect, and create together. During one of their many creative experiments, Sue and her daughter, Anjela, began developing a material made from recycled paper. What started as an afternoon craft session soon became something much bigger—a unique paper clay medium that would eventually become the foundation of Klaypel.
Over the years, the mother-and-daughter team refined the material, developed original techniques, and transformed it into a patented Filipino creative product. In 2017, the brand formally became Klaypel—a combination of the words clay and papel (paper)—reflecting its distinctive identity as a paper-based art medium.
Today, Klaypel transforms recycled paper into vibrant, textured art experiences that are accessible to artists and non-artists alike. Through a process affectionately called dutdot—the Filipino word for “to poke”—users apply colorful paper clay onto illustrations, creating richly textured artworks that are both playful and therapeutic.
What has remained unchanged throughout the years is the company's belief that creativity is inherent in everyone. From children discovering art for the first time to professional artists, corporate teams, senior citizens, patients, and entire communities, Klaypel has become a platform for creative expression, connection, and wellbeing.
As the company grew, so did its purpose. Beyond art kits and workshops, Klaypel now collaborates with schools, cultural institutions, corporations, hotels, and community organizations, while advancing sustainability initiatives through the Klaypel Recycling Hub, which gives discarded paper a second life through art.
Rooted in Filipino creativity and guided by a commitment to sustainability, Klaypel continues to reimagine what paper can become. Each artwork is a reminder that something humble and often discarded can be transformed into something meaningful—much like the people who create them.
More than a product, Klaypel is an invitation to create, connect, and discover the artist within.
