Arnel Papa has over 20 years of experience in creating and exporting high-quality accessories. His pieces are described as raw, bold and evocative. Born and raised in Marilao, Bulacan, his father started a shell craft business that was turned over to him.
His creations are all the more striking despite not having any formal training in jewelry design. With nature as his muse, he has mastered the use of local materials like horn, bone, seashells, coconut shells, kamagong wood, mother of pearl, brass, and copper.
These elements are skillfully shaped, assembled, and refined into pieces like necklaces, bracelets, and other accessories. Mother of pearl serves as a base for precious stones, and dark kamagong is curved and shaped to the wearer’s right fit. The shapes and contrasts that he creates are dramatic, eye-catching, and organic, suggesting natural forms made luxurious but still grounded in a down-to-earth, local aesthetic.
Arnel is a member of the Fashion Design Council of the Philippines (FDCP). He is also a Manila FAME Katha Awardee and was named Best Jewelry Designer by the Asia Pacific Leather Fair (APLF) in Hong Kong. Arnel’s distinctive artistry and flawless craftsmanship have attracted international fashion brands and boutiques. Pieces from his collections have appeared on the pages of Vogue, Elle, and Cosmopolitan, and have been worn by beauty queens, celebrities, and well-known personalities.
Arnel Papa pieces are available in his stand-alone store in Ayala Mall Greenbelt 5 and in boutiques in Paris and Japan.
